Anatolian Kula

Our Anatolian and Caucasian rugs have been collected over many years of traversing the Turkish countryside, seeking out individual treasures. Regardless of it age or origin, each is a one-of-a-kind example of the artistry of its weaver.

The name Kula refers to the town in Western Turkey where this type of rug is made. Kula rugs are characterized by rich but subtle coloring, dominated by pastel hues, but often including earthier tones of rust, green, gold, and blue. Kula designs feature flowers, primarily carnations, with a border of narrow concentric stripes. Center motifs depend on the purpose of the rug. Prayer rugs will feature a mihrab (an arch-shaped form which is representative of the prayer niche in the mosque), and others will feature a medallion pattern.
