Our Anatolian and Caucasian rugs have been collected over many years of traversing the Turkish countryside, seeking out individual treasures. Regardless of it age or origin, each is a one-of-a-kind example of the artistry of its weaver.
Taspinar rugs are woven in eastern Turkey, around the town of Taspinar, which is located near the Taurus Mountains. The Persian influence is definitely seen in Taspinar pieces, which use both plant figures and geometric patterns. This is not surprising, as the nomads of old knew no borders, and people regularly traversed the mountainous regions between Turkey and modern-day Iraq and Syria. Taspinar rugs are known for using the best wools, which give them a soft, velvety texture. They are predominantly executed in indigo blues and madder reds, making for intense, brilliant rugs. Many are woven as prayer rugs, and feature a mihrab (an arch-shaped form which is representative of the prayer niche in the mosque). Others feature a medallion design, and some also incorporate village skylines in their border imagery.
