This simple Persian Bidjar rug is noteworthy for its subtle, tonal use of blues and greens throughout the piece. This rug was almost certainly a larger rug when woven, but somewhere in its long and illustrious life (it was woven at least 120 years ago) it was re-sized to the form you see now by removing the fringe (warp) ends, and recasting the edge to ensure against unraveling.
Antique rugs give an air of sophistication and panache to any home, whether used as floor coverings, wall art, tablecloths or even bedspreads! Most antique rugs are very sturdy. However, we do add the precaution that if a rug is more than 100 years old, it is likely to have some small areas of wear. Thus, you shouldn't use it as an entryway rug, or under a dining table that gets daily use. Other than that, let your imagination be your guide.
