Jon Sevaar and his family were amongst the first
Turks we met when we began visiting Turkey. Their family has been in
the rug-making business for generations, with all members of the family
participating on some level. Jon-Sevaar’s mother makes the rugs, his
sister designs the pieces, and he and his father, brothers, and uncles
sell the rugs.
Very simple in both weave and design, these functional pieces
nevertheless capture the mystique and beauty of kilims. They’re
perfect for high traffic areas such as doors, and clean up very
easily. In fact, a client actually told us she threw her Jon Sevaar
rug in her washer, and blocked it after washing, and it came out
perfectly! While we certainly don’t recommend this method of
cleaning (hand-washing is much better for the rug), it does say a great
deal about the sturdy construction of our Jon-Sevaar kilims!
Please note: we highly recommend purchasing Rug & Relic padding to
hold your kilim in place. While quite durable, flat weaves are also
prone to sliding, especially on hardwood floors or tile.
