Antique Blanket Chest (c. 1800)
BIR0518-1023-1
We're delighted to offer this truly masterful solid white oak antique blanket chest, which we found on our last trip to rural Turkey. From her wheels to the carvings that grace her to the locks which keep unwanted eyes from peering inside, there is nothing about this chest that isn't absolutely remarkable. There's even a "secret" compartment inside, that we still haven't figured out how to open! Please - take a moment to notice that each of the panels is carved differently. Can you imagine the time it took to create this masterful piece of case goods? The treasures placed inside it must have been valuable indeed to warrant a chest of this magnitude.
If you've been looking for that one "show-stopper" piece for your home, you can stop looking now. You've won the "statement piece" lottery on this one! One word of caution, however... this is not a reproduction, made from some cheap, lightweight wood. Crafted of solid white oak of at least 2" thickness throughout, she is as heavy as she is beautiful. You're going to need help moving her, regardless of the wheels. Trust us. It's worth the effort.
